Antique Tassel Earrings OOAK

These one-of-a-kind earrings feature two antique Victorian rolled-gold tassel fobs, circa 1900, and prong-set vintage aurora borealis rhinestones, circa 1950.

  • 1 1/2" long
  • one-of-a-kind

  • 6 mm vintage aurora borealis rhinestones, prong set in brass
  • antique rolled-gold tassels
  • gold-filled jump rings
  • 14K gold-filled [+ $5] or gold-plated surgical steel ear wires

Origin Story

The rhinestones feature a finish known as "aurora borealis," meant to simulate the iridescent effect of the Northern Lights.  Created by the Swarovski Company in the mid-1950's, this coating was extremely popular in costume jewelry through the 1960's.

The tassels on these earrings were likely used to embellish Albert-style watch chains of the period; this particular type of pocket watch chain was distinguished by an additional section of chain used for attaching a decorative item, such as a fob.
