The circular components in these unusual earrings began their life back in the late 1700's as verge cover (dust covers) for the inside of an 18th century pocket watch. Each cover was individually pierced, cut and chased in a workshop, then coated with a high karat gold gilding. Since these were individually handmade, no two pieces are alike. When pocket watch technology advanced, Victorian jewelers salvaged the beautiful internal pieces and converted into jewelry such as hat pins, brooches, necklaces and bracelets.
